The best way to reward employees

Having an effective reward program in place can help solve many of your HR issues.

Compensation, benefits, recognition and appreciation should be the four elements of the strategic reward system for employees.

Nowadays companies seem to have problems to reward their employees in an agreeable way. On the one hand they forget to apply the two most important elements, recognition and appreciation. On the other hand the applied rewards are often used in the wrong way. Many businesses forget to aligne the elements with the company’s strategy.

Rewarding can be based on two activies: performance or specific behaviors that contribute to the success of your company.

When you want to reward in the right way, it is very important to link the compensations to the main goals of your company at that moment. Is innovation the most important for you? Or do you want to reward your employees for the time they have worked?

In short, reviewing your strategic reward system should be a fundamental element for your company. It is the key to attract and retain your top workers.

The way you reward your employees could make the difference between a company’s success and failure.

It is a fact that nowadays companies don’t pay enough attention to it. It doesn’t matter if it is a sales-girl or a head of department, being friendly seems to be very difficult.

I think there is a serious problem with the motivation of the staff. Actually, I noticed this problem several times last weeks. I’m sure everybody has already experienced it more than once.

When you enter a shop, the sales-girls are chatting with each other, reading the newspaper or phoning. The fact that you enter the shop, disturbes them. But the moment you dare to ask them something it only get worser. It looks like they would shoot you if you don’t leave the shop quick enough.

A winning system to reward could be with benefits. But, I think the most effective way is to recognise and appreciate your employees. Asking their opinion and knowing how they feel at work should be something very important for the managers. I think every employee has the right to know if they are doing their job well, average or bad.

In my opinion top salers diserve to be rewarded more than the others. There also should be a healthy competition in every company, without harming the teamspirit.
But, how do you think about this topic? How would you reward your employees? Or do you think it isn’t that important?
